I apologize for this interuption, but with the job market as it is I thought some of you may know someone looking for a good opportunity for a 6 month contract doing Citrix engineering. At AgFirst, we are doing a major project to overhaul the Citrix infrastructure, upgrade to XenApp 5 on VMware Vsphere servers, and utilizing many high end Citrix tools such as provisioning server and EdgeSite. If you know someone that has Citrix experience, especially with XenApp 5, and also has some VMware experience, then please forward this or ask them to contact me. We are looking to supplement our resources for this project and are always looking for good candidates as openings come up. Thanks! The REUs from other universities are starting to come out. These are incredible opportunities. Don't pass it up! The Computer Science Department at the University of Texas at Dallas will conduct an eight-week summer research program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for ten undergraduates from June 1 to July 23, 2010. The focus of the research is on "verification and validation for software safety," however, the technology and research skills learned by the students have general applicability to research and practice in their future studies. We provide a close collaboration with our industry partners. In addition to work on assigned research projects at the university, special field trips to Raytheon, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, and EDS will be arranged to help the students better understand how software safety is verified and validated in practice for real-life applications. This also gives students a chance to directly communicate with practitioners to receive a first-hand account of the work environments and lifestyles in the industry. Eligible applicants are those who have an interest in pursuing a graduate education, are currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate institution, and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Incoming seniors will be given preference, but sophomores and juniors with strong academic records will also be considered. Special welcome is extended to students from underrepresented groups (women, minorities, and persons with disabilities) and academic institutions with limited research opportunities. Selected participants for this NSF REU program will receive a grant to pursue a summer research opportunity with a faculty member at the Computer Science Department of the University of Texas at Dallas. Included will be a $3,600 stipend, a housing allowance, and a travel reimbursement for those from outside the Dallas metro area. Qualifications * US citizens or permanent residents * Major in Computer Science or Software Engineering * GPA higher than 3.0 * Proficiency in C/C++, FMEA, FTA, and UML is preferred * Incoming senior, or sophomore/junior with strong academic record * Students from underrepresented groups (women, minorities, and persons with disabilities) and academic institutions with limited research opportunities especially welcome Important Dates * March 15 Application deadline * April 15 Notification date * June 1 REU program starting date * July 23 REU program ending date For more information, contact Professor Eric Wong Department of computer Science University of Texas at Dallas Email: reu@utdallas.edu
from prof. Buell:
I was over at the career fair yesterday. In case you weren’t, and in case you are interested in summer jobs (whether or not they are formally called “internships”): Most of the companies I talked with were specifically interested in getting summer hires. Kenya Hunter, USC CS grad from a few years ago, now at Vanguard (investment company) in Charlotte, said she was specifically hoping to get summer people lined up. Vanguard is a large company that is often ranked with the best companies to work for. Hawkes Learning Systems in Charleston does software for math education. They are seriously in need of software people . The Savannah College of Art and Design is interested in software people with a flair for the artistic for their IT operations. t-Metrics from Charlotte does VOIP phone systems, growing company, with DoD contracts… There were two reps from the Charleston Digital Corridor. This is a business development operation partly funded by the City of Charleston. If I remember the numbers right: They have 159 IT companies on their list, with 15 current sponsors (i.e. these people pay money?). They count 194 full time software positions currently vacant in Charleston in their list of 15 companies. For reference, USC is currently graduating about 80 total computing people a year from this department. I suspect that Helen Fields in the Career Center in SWR has all the contact information.
