Computers: Where the Jobs Are

The following graph is from this report from the Georgetown University center for Education an the workforce. It shows that the (I think conservative) forecast is that by 2018 51% of the STEM jobs will be in Computers. In other words, there will be more jobs requiring a Computer major than those requiring a Physics, Chemistry, Math, Sociology, Psychology, Biology, Zoology, Marine Biology, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc., etc. degree, combined. This is not very different from today's workforce, so it should not come as a surprise. And yet, in this University, like most others, the number of Computer majors is roughly the same as the number of Mechanical Engineering majors.
