The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) describes software developers as “the creative minds behind computer programs,” and says that “some develop the applications that allow people to do specific tasks on a computer or other device. Others develop the underlying systems that run the devices or control networks.” It’s not only a well-compensated field–with median annual wages in the $90,000 to $99,000 range, depending on specific role–it’s one that’s been projected to grow a whopping 22% between 2012 and 2022, allowing for plenty of demand for graduates from the class of 2014.
