UofSC Research Computing is seeking an undergraduate to participate in a Deep Learning (DL) optimization and High Performance Computing (HPC) benchmarking project. The successful candidate will conduct work on state-of-art industry-level HPC clusters, high performance storage, and GPU accelerators. Duties will include setting up a benchmarking suite in a parallel cluster environment, building necessary libraries, writing shell scripts to build frameworks, and optimizing DL training models.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Experience with Linux administration, Bash shell scripts, and Python
• Basic knowledge of Deep Learning
• Good Mathematics background in Linear Algebra, Statistics
• Good communication skills
• Immediate availability is preferred

Position 2:

 

UofSC Research Computing is searching for an undergraduate to develop and maintain web content. The duties of the position will include communicating with staff members and collecting requirements, documenting development process, modernizing existing web content, creating new pages, and other duties as assigned. This position will be a unique opportunity to learn greater skills in web development and will offer a thorough introduction to Research Computing and High Performance Computing.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Experience with website programming
• Experience with Content Management Systems
• Knowledge of HTML 5.0, CSS, and JavaScript

Position 3:

 

UofSC Research Computing is seeking a student to take part in a research project involving Computer Vision and Deep Learning. The student will work closely with a diverse team of Computer Vision researchers, Information Scientists, and History researchers to analyze and optimize face detection techniques and implement computationally complex training models on High Performance Computing clusters.  This position provides an outstanding opportunity for a student to be working directly with researchers and subject matter experts on a variety of advanced topics.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Hands-on experience with Python, C/C++
• Preferred courses: Linear Algebra, Computer Vision, Machine Learning
• Knowledge of Deep Learning concepts
• Highly self-motivated
• Up to 20 hours per week during school year

As most of you know, the Center for Digital Humanities each years seeks to hire talented young CS students or students in other majors with comparable skills for its projects. I’m writing to ask you all for referrals of students you have been particularly impressed with or have heard about. Internships are typically 10 hours per week. Under the COVID circumstances, work may be done remotely. We have openings on at least two projects, with prospects for several kinds of work:

• Full stack web development
• Computer animation
• Data analytics, text mining
• Databases
• Systems administration

Ideal candidates would be as follows:

• Freshmen or sophomores (so they will be around USC long enough to work on a project for 2+ years)
• Have completed at least CSCE 145-146 or equivalent
• (Preferred but not required:) Ideally have completed the short UNIX course or have equivalent knowledge
• (Preferred but not required:) Ideally have completed CSCE 240 (though I realize that many students take this as juniors)

The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), Parsons-Cyber, and the Cyber Center of Excellence (CCoE) will be hosting an International Cyber Capture the Flag (CTF) Challenge on August 20th from 10am-2pm. The CTF challenge will be a 4-hour knowledge-based, jeopardy-style, computer network exercise which can be attended in-person or virtually via remote access. Teams from international government and higher education institutions will compete against one another by practically applying Programming, Crypto-analysis, Exploitation and Reverse Engineering tactics, techniques and procedures within a simulated environment. The 4-hour competition window includes 10 minutes for an introduction/overview and discussion of the rules for the road. I am looking for a college student to develop an app for a startup. The core functionality of the app is written in React Native, and it has been tested on the Android side but not on the iPhone side. I need a lot of work on the look & feel of the app more than anything. This could be a huge opportunity for a talented student to get in on the ground floor of a tech startup focusing on the sports training industry.
