The goals of this course, adapted from the departmental syllabus, are:

To introduce the student to the data structures and algorithms that will be met in advanced courses in computer science.
To introduce the student to abstraction as a tool for representing problems and problem solving.
To introduce the student to algorithmic analysis as an essential part of problem solving.
To introduce the student to the formal analysis of algorithms.
