Second Continued Operations: Revised Syllabus Spring 2020

CSCE 102 - General Applications Programming

Lecture Instructor - Denise Sgroi Davis, M.S.

Moving to on-line instruction as of March 23, 2020

Welcome to our online 102 class! We did not expect this, wish things were different and will all do the best that we can. I hope that you and your family are safe and well and following the CDC guidelines. Please remember that your health is most important.

We have modified this course to move forward as an online class. We are still here to help you. If you have any concerns or need help please contact me. You will also still have the help of your lab instructor and the lab monitors and even other lab instructors. Together we will get through these difficult times. Remember we are here to help you. In my own home, all four of our children are home and have moved to on-line learning, just like you.

We have removed Test 2 and the Final Exam. As a result, the percentages of the labs, the project, and the HW/quizzes have increased. We will continue with regularly scheduled homework assignments on Monday and quizzes on Wednesday. Quizzes will be posted on Blackboard.

The Plan

  • I plan to hold office hours and regular lectures online via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. For those not able to connect during our regular meeting time, MW 3:30-4:20, live sessions will be recorded and viewable offline. My intention is to remain flexible and continue to adapt to this situation. I want to continue helping students outside of normal office hours. I will add live hours online on Friday. Informally, students were dropping in during this time already. We will just move this remotely.

  • You will find a new course on blackboard for viewing lectures, CSCE 102 Combined Course for Collaboration and Communication. I will be posting handouts and 10 minute recordings to assist with the material. Homework assignments will be posted on our class webpage. I will send emails notifying you of new content, assignments, and instructions for completion.

  • To find Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, just log in to Blackboard, find CSCE 102 Combined Course for Collaboration and Communication go to Tools, find "Blackboard Collaborate Ultra", and join the class.

  • We will be sending out instructions on how to connect remotely to your Xdrive, the computing labs in Sumwalt. Please be on the lookout for these. I am here to help with this transition also. Most of us will find this very helpful.

  • Finally, please let me know if you have any Remote Technology needs. The university will assist with getting the remote technology you need.

Best to you all.
