Even though the University has now adopted the Carolina Core, the foreign language requirement for students in the College of Engineering and Computing has not changed. To satisfy to foreign language requirement, all students in our college, unless they are international students who did not graduate from a U.S. high school, would need to do one of the following:
- Score a 2 or higher on a foreign language placement test
- Complete the first two semesters of a traditional foreign language (i.e. French, German, Spanish)
- Complete the first semester of a non-traditional foreign language (i.e. Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Swahili)
- Provide a memo from Foreign Languages that a student has tested out of one of the non-traditional foreign languages (i.e. Vietnamese, Hindi, Swedish)
If you have any questions concerning the foreign language requirement, please contact Student Services for clarification.
