Local Tech Scene

There are a number of local technology groups that meet frequently to discuss and learn about technology. Students will be interested in visiting some of these to meet local professionals and learn about how technology is being used.

USC/Columbia Technology Incubator

IT-ology: The IT-ology building on Gervais St. holds many of the local tech events. Check them out at this link.

ACM USC: Our very own ACM Student Group. Their office is one the second floor of Swearingen, 2A17.

CyberSecurity@USC: Our CyberSecurity Student group.

Refresh Columbia: Refresh is a community of designers and developers working to refresh the creative, technical, & professional culture of New Media endeavors in the Columbia area while promoting: design, usability, technology, standards.

ColaSec: Columbia's Information Security Group

Open Source South Carolina: This meetup focuses on open source, open tech and the open web. It is designed for technologists, decision makers, and students that either 1) currently work with open source technology or 2) want to learn more. It will feature talks by and networking with some of the top technologists in the country.

Indie Bits: A festival of southeastern independent interactive media.

Dig South: annual tech conference, in Charleston.

ConvergeSE: the conference for those who want to build a beautiful web.

Colalug: The Columbia Linux User's Group.

Columbia Enterprise Developers Guild: We have had regular meetings for over 5 years serving software developers in the Midlands. Each month you can expect an exciting topic in software development from both local and established speakers.

Google Developer's Group: Google Developer Group (GDG) Columbia will meet monthly at IT-ology 1301 Gervais St, Columbia. Our meetings will always be free and open to the general public.
